Elm Grove AllStars v Esher Wizards
The West Surrey Youth Football League, U10's Premier Elite league Cup Final
was played at Cranmore School in West Horsley on 3/4/11.
After beating Tooting & Mitcham 3-0 in the semi final, the Hersham based
'AllStars' secured a place in the final, against local rivals Esher Wizards.
Esher started well with some good set piece play, and took the lead from a well
headed corner. Elm Grove didn't panic, and continued to play the excellent possession
and passing football that they have been associated with for some time. Dylan
B. latched on to Stuart Ilsley's chip towards goal, to equalise for the AllStars,
after no less than ten slick passes, which started from Keeper Alfie.
Both teams contested the 2nd half very well, with Elm Grove putting more and
more passes together, to break-down the Esher defence. After some excellent
defending from Captain Dennis, along with Max, Jack & Kieron, Esher resulted
in hitting long shots from midfield. Thankfully, Alfie's safe hands kept the
ball out of the net. With excellent work down both flanks from Dylan R. and
Dylan B., and solid midfield displays from Sam and Stuart, it would only be
a matter of time before the hard work from Elm Grove paid dividends.
In the second half of extra time, Sami hit the ball on a half volley, from outside
the box, guiding the ball high into Esher's net! 2-1 to the AllStars, and a
fantastic achievement from all the boys. Dennis lifted the Cup to the applause
of both the Elm Grove and Esher supporters. A fine display of youth football
at it's finest.

Tournament
Success for under 9s team
It was another successful Bank Holiday footballing
weekend for the Elm Grove Colts FC 'AllStars' Under 9's Football team at the
Camber Sands National football tournament. Last year's winners were going back
to defend their trophy, and they didn't disappoint. After scoring a total of
16 goals in 8 matches, and conceding only 2, the AllStars made their way into
the final against Charlton Athletic academy, thanks to some great work on the
left side of midfield by the ever impressive SD throughout the tournament. The
game started the same way as all the other matches before them, with quick,
wide passing play, great goalkeeping by JB and solid defending. Captain DG,
KP and MS led the way with excellent defensive work, whilst WR, AR, SI and JB
penetrated the academy's defence. Late into the first half, WR was fouled and
dusted himself down to take the free-kick, from all of 20 yards out. He hit
the ball high into the top left hand corner of the goal with precision. The
friends and families of the youth football players celebrated on the touch lines,
and when the final whistle blew, to make it 1-0 to the AllStars, the cheers
and celebrations continued. Later that evening, Steve Claridge (ex Portsmouth
FC and Leicester City FC), handed out the winners trophies to the very excited
boys. See pic below:

Four Elm Grove Colts Teams in Cup Finals...Under 13s, under 12s and 2 under 9s teams!!!!
Congratulations to all four teams and their management teams!
This being our 5th annual tournament, we hope to entertain over 120 teams that come from all over Surrey. Our tournament has a fantastic reputation with over 70% of the teams returning annually. We generally raise between £5,000 and £7000 during the weekend. However it does take volunteers to help make this a success. Everyone will be asked to contribute some time over the weekend to help us make the 2009 tournament a success. As well we are desparately seeking corporate sponsors. We need to find 9 organisations who will sponsor an age group. The cost is £150 and they will get a full page advert in the tournament programme as well as their names engraved on the trophies. If you know of a sponsor, please contact Steve Pasick
Easter
Bank holiday proved to be a very successful weekend for the Elm Grove Colts 'AllStars',
Hersham based youth football team. Playing in the national tournament held at
Camber Sands, the boys were up against some very strong participants from all
over the UK, including the Scottish National Boys Team. Elm Grove scored a total
of 24 goals, and thanks to some excellent defensive duties from Dennis Gorman,
Max Spence, Kieron Page & goalkeeper Nathan Martin, only one goal was conceded
all weekend. With some excellent play making from the impressive Wayne Ridgley
in centre midfield, and the consistent quality of passing & moving from Sami
Davies, Alfie Rule and Dylan Randall, the lone striker up front, Stuart Ilsley
had a field day, scoring 11 goals himself. The boys' quick passing, two touch
football was a pleasure to watch, as was the camaraderie between all of the participating
teams and their families - A real example of youth football at it's finest.
Lee
Sharpe (Ex Man Utd) handed out the Winners awards to the team, which made the
boy's weekend even more exciting.

The U13s continued this seasons cup-winning tradition, following on from the Dads' win a few weeks ago, with their own win at the Guildford Saints tournament yesterday morning.
There were some familiar faces at the tournament, both old and new - Goldsworth Park (one of our first opponents back when we were U9s), Meadow Boys, Aldershot Boys, Burymead, Guildford City.
The boys just qualified from their group stage with a record of 1 win, 1 score draw, 1 scoreless draw, and 1 loss. The quarter final was against Guildford City "A", and a 1-0 win saw them through to the semis.
The semi final was against Tennison Youth - looking like an AFC Wimbledown team of old. The boys conceded a lot of possession, but mid-way through the second half came the move and the goal of the tournament. The move started in defence and some lovely one touch football saw us break down the right, then cross to the left, where the ball was smashed into the right upper corner of the goal from outside of the box. Tennsion never recovered, and we were though to the final.
The
final was a closely contested match against the home team Guildford Saints. The
match was eventually settled via penalties after the game ended 0-0 after extra
time. Still tied at 2-2 after the five outfield players had taken their penalties,
sudden death started with penalties taken by both keepers. The Saints keeper took
his first, and started his run up from what looked like close to the half way
line, but he smashed the ball too close to Benji who pulled off a great save.
Benji then coolly strode up and slotted his penalty into the net for our first
tournament win.
